There is a tiny little mysterious corner shop in the neighbourhood of  Mount Pleasant . It’s unexpectedly adorable and this discovery is filled with deliciousness.  A community grocery store packed with local products and old-fashioned country charm is The Home Grow-in Grocer . It’s located on the westside of Vancouver at the corner of West 18th Ave and Columbia (Between Cambie and Main), surrounded by the gorgeous heritage houses and beautiful tall trees all along the streets.

They are the only store in Vancouver specializing in only carrying local, natural, organic products of British Columbia. They have a trust policy that is rare in the city and they support their local BC farmers in ensuring they have a market next year for their crops, and they’re establishing The Home Grow-in Buyers Co-op, where a person can buy a share. (Shares are still available. Please contact and ask for more information info@home-growin.com .) With a purchase of a share you will receive a certain amount of fresh produce grown both here in the Fraser Valley and in the Okanogan/Similkameen Valley. You will receive weekly updates on the planting and harvesting of your crops and a special feature is to help ensure that you receive the produce of the season that you enjoy.

Their aim is to bring fresh and quality BC produce and products to encourage the re-establishment of the “community” grocer store. The return of the neighbourhood corner store is what The Home Grow-in Grocer is all about, embracing the philosophy of the Buy Local in our society and global economy in a world.

Well, I know I’m going to return there soon embracing my appetite.
